In September we joined Scandinavian Startup Week in Montréal, Canada and let me tell you - it was a week we will never forget! During the week we met some wonderful people and gained invaluable input for our business idea Margins. And off course we squeezed in a hockey game :)
As we talked about before, Margins by Particles was selected to join Scandinavian Startup Week in 2018. Scandinavian Startup Week selected nineteen startups from four different business accelerators in Sweden whom would get the opportunity to widen their business network in North America.
Due to some unpredictable weather in Europe the flight to Canada was delayed, but on Saturday the 22nd we finally arrived in Montréal. The weekend was over in a flash with so much to see in the beautiful city of Montréal. In Swedish terms it’s a big city, but it felt surprisingly homely.
On Monday we started off with pitch coaching. During the week we got to pitch our business idea at least a dozen of times, and boy did we learn a lot. The pitch we did in the beginning of the week felt a bit stiff and boring. But with valuable coaching throughout the week our pitch got more polished and interesting. We dare to say we have a proper elevator pitch now, ready to knock your socks off. On Monday we also got to meet Montréal International informing us on how to run a business in Canada - thank you for having us.
Tuesday was a very exciting day for us where we got to visit IBM:s Watson Center. IBM very kindly shared their thoughts about AI and machine learning and we were all ears. Since the visit to IBM in Montréal we actually already had a meeting with IBM back in Sweden, proving yet again what an exciting company they are.
More pitch training going on during Wednesday and later that night we all went to a hockey game. What a incredible night! Truly a childhood dream come true for Margins founder Andreas.
On Friday the trip was coming to an end and we were packing our bags. Although we felt like we just couldn't leave without meeting up with Shopify who have their headquarters in Montréal. Said and done, we went down to Shopify and got a tour of their offices. Such a inspiring company!
We want to thank Kalmar Science Park for letting us tag along on the 2018 edition of Scandinavian Startup Week. It really gave us the energy boost we needed and wonderful experiences. Merci beaucoup!
